Books: Metalcraft
 |
Copper Journals, our newest edition, are made from 18-gauge solid copper plates. The design are assembled, collage style, using various art sources including hand-drawn detailing. Each book is then etched in an acid bath to give the design a dimensional, textural quality. Covers are hand patinaed to give the design contrast, then clear-coated for protection from the elements. The interiors and back covers are hand burnished with a swirl design, and the book is hand sewn with four needles using black or eggplant waxed irish linen thread and aged copper eyelets. Page count is single sided. Makes for a beautiful art display or functional book. Great size for traveling.

Greg sez...
When we sell these at art shows, I like watching people pick up the books, open them up, look at the stitching...either trying to figure out how it's done or admiring the handiwork. Either way, it's cool. But with the Metalcraft ones, my favorite thing is waiting for them to run the pads of their fingers over the etched surfaces. They almost always do that. Something about these books encourages trying to be a part of them.
